Gabriel García Márquez's “Crónica de una muerte anunciada” is a novel that explores themes of destiny, honor and fatality in a small community. The story is told from the point of view of a narrator who reconstructs the events that occurred years after the tragedy. The novel revolves around the murder of Santiago Nasar, a wealthy young man from a small Caribbean town. From the beginning it is known that he is going to be murdered, as the Vicario brothers, Pedro and Pablo, have publicly announced their intention to kill him to avenge the honor of their sister Angela Vicario, who claims that Santiago dishonored her. Although most of the townspeople know of the threat, no one intervenes effectively to prevent Santiago's death. The play is a chronicle of how, despite the anticipation and inevitability of the crime, tragic fate cannot be avoided.
