Plot
The novel reflects on the inevitability of destiny. The death of Santiago Nasar seems to be predestined and no one can avoid it, despite knowing in advance what is going to happen, honor is central to the plot, as the action of the Vicario brothers is motivated by the need to defend the honor of their sister Angela and although many in the town knew of the murder plot, no one does enough to prevent it. This highlights the indifference and lack of collective responsibility as well as how small societies can be brutally strict with social norms and how violence becomes a form of personal justice.
